Frequently Asked Questions

What is Vipbid.com.au?

Vipbid is a diverse and innovative auction site. It is the new frontier in the online auction community where winning depends on you? It's a fun and exciting way to win brand new products at 80-95 % below retail price, and earn an income while you win by Introducing a friend.

Before each auction, the auction supervisor will determine the maximum bid Price (max bid price) and the maximum number of bids (max # of Bids) that will be accepted for the auction, among other things. This maximum bid price will be displayed for each auction and is referred to as the "Max Bid Price”.

*To participate, users must register and setup a profile in which they choose a level on their membership level.

*After registering members may then participate in an auction.

*To participate in an auction members submit bids, less than or equal to the "Max Bid Price "; in Australian dollars see section Join.

*Each Auction will close when it receives the maximum number of bids (max # of bids) for the auction or meets the other closing requirements.

*After the auction closes, the participant that submitted the successful (winning) bid is determined. The successful bid is the highest or lower unique bid (depend of the type of auction) out of all bids received for the auction.

*The successful participant may then purchase the product and/or service for the successful bid amount submitted by them in the Auction.

*After receiving payment for the successful bid amount, the product and/or service will be delivered to the member.

How does Vipbid Work?

Higher Bid Auction

In a Highest Unique Auction, such as Vipbid, a Maximum Bid amount is set by the Auctioneer that is on average at 1- 10% of the market value of the article. The bidding process is sealed and at the close of the auction the lot is awarded to what is considered to be the Highest Unique Bid that is the highest bid amount that no other bidder has submitted, up to the Maximum Bid amount. The seller recovers his costs by applying an Administration Fee to each bid submitted. Apart from the attraction to purchase expensive articles at a fraction of their value, the Bids available on each lot are limited so that only a certain number of bids may be submitted which dramatically increases the bidder's possibility of been awarded the auction result. This concept is gaining popularity as the increasing cost of new products is distributed across the bidders in a beneficially rewarding relationship. A variation to the Highest Unique Bid Auction is Lowest Unique Bid Auction.

For example, in a single auction the following bids are accepted:

  • TV Plasma
  • RRP: $1999
  • Max Bid price: $19.99
  • Max # of Bids: 240
  • Bid Fee: $15.00
  • Closing Date: 30 July 2007

At the end of the auction the top ten bids may look like this:

  • Bid 1: $19.99
  • Bids 2:$19.99
  • Bid 3: $19.99
  • Bid 4: $19.98
  • Bid 5: $19.98
  • Bid 6: $18.00 Highest Unique Bid
  • Bid 7: $17.99
  • Bid 8: $17.00
  • Bid 9: $16.00 Unique Bid
  • Bid 10: $15.00

Bid No.6 is the highest unique bidder and is awarded the auction result and would have to pay $18.00.

He has therefore purchased an item for $18 (Bid max price) + $15 (Bid Fee) = $33 = 1.66% of Retail Price ($1999)!

Lower Bid Auction

A variation to the Lower unique bid Auction is Highest Unique Bid Auction

In this unique auction method, you want to keep your bid as low as possible or as close to $0.01 as you can. You must also keep in mind that in order to win the auction your bid has to be unique. This means you not only need to bid low but, you need to bid numbers that you think other bidders won’t bid.

An example of our bidding page:

  • Gift Card
  • Retail Price: $100
  • Max Bid Price: $1.99
  • Max # of Bids: 150
  • Bid Fee: $5.00

At the end of the auction the lowest ten bids may look like this:

  • Bid 1: $0.01
  • Bid 2: $0.01
  • Bid 3: $0.02
  • Bid 4: $0.02
  • Bid 5: $0.02
  • Bid 6: $0.03 Lowest Unique Bid
  • Bid 7: $0.04
  • Bid 8: $0.04
  • Bid 9: $0.05 Unique, but not the lowest
  • Bid 10: $0.06

Bid No.6 is the Lowest Unique Bidder and is awarded the auction result and would have to pay only 3c. The winner has therefore purchased an article for $3c

What is a unique bid?

A unique bid is a bid that is NOT a duplicate bid. A "duplicate bid" is a bid submitted by a participant in an auction where another participant(s) has submitted a bid(s) for the identical amount. Duplicate bids are used to calculate the number of bids required to close an auction, but are disqualified from being selected as the successful bid. A bid can be unique and still not qualify as the successful bid.

Top

What if an auction closes and there is not a unique bid?

In the very unlikely event that an auction closes and there is not a unique bid, all participants will receive an e-mail describing the situation and will be asked to submit a new bid within 72 hours. There will be no fees associated with the new bid and a special URL will be given to the participant to submit the new bid. If a participant does not submit a new bid, their original bid will be used.

Top

Top

How many bids can be submitted in an auction?

The maximum number of bids allowed in any one auction is determined by the auction supervisor before the auction opens, and may vary between different auctions. The maximum number of bids that will be accepted for an auction will be clearly specified in the information presented for each auction. Once an auction opens, the max # of bids will not be changed for that auction.

Top

How long will an auction remain open?

An auction will remain open until either the maximum number of bids (max # of bids) allocated for the auction is reached .If the minimum number of bids has not been reached, the auction will be extended until the minimum number of bids has been reached. At that time, a closing date of three days will be set and posted on the auction. This is a very good time to bid in an auction because your chances of submitting the successful bid are greater because the maximum number of bids has not yet been reached and you will be competing against fewer bidders.

Top

What is the "Ending Soon" indication? /How will I know when an auction ends?

We will attempt to show an Ending Soon indication on any auction that has only 25% or less of the bids left to go before it hits the maximum number of bids we accept for the auction. If an auction is set up with a maximum of 50 or less bids, the "Ending soon" indication will show when there are 12 or less bids left.
